Greta Byrum (Principal Owner, Founder)

Greta Byrum studies, builds, and shapes humane technology systems for dignity and thriving on our living planet. She has spent 30 years studying information revolutions, starting with the fast printing press in the 18th century through telegraph and radio in the 19th to our current moment with AI and the internet. Before founding Present Moment, Greta worked with communities across NYC, rural Appalachia, Detroit, and around the world to collaboratively design and build community-owned communication networks; designed and launched the $12m Just Tech Fellowship Program at the Social Science Research Council, built the Digital Equity Lab at The New School, and led the Resilient Communities Program as well as Field Operations for the Open Tech Institute at New America. Greta leads a Plum Village meditation group in her hometown of Beacon, New York, and sits on New York State's Regents Advisory Council on Libraries.
